Examples of Tarot Cards

There are 22 Major Arcana Cards. Each card is shown here in this animated presentation. Each Major shows a basic greater meaning in our lives.

There are 56 Minor Arcana Cards which are always linked to one of the four primal 'elements'. These correlations are important to the reading and give a clear indication of the focus of the reading. In general they are:

Cups: Water - Emotions, love, friendship, secrets, intuition.

Pentacles: Earth - Stability, finances, practicality, possessions, craft.

Swords: Fire - Energy, will, work, temper, combat, testing, movement.

Wands: Air - Intellect, logic, reason, skill, dispassion, knowledge, problems.

In a similar fashion to the regular 52 card deck we all play solitaire with, there is a jack, queen and king. But an additional court card is added in Tarot. The Court Cards of each Minor suite are generally named the Page, Knight, Queen and King. The characters and settings of each depend heavily on the nature of each reading.
